i posted that photo of santa muerte below and just read up on it, now i’m on a quest to obtain a statue for myself. so off to the botánicas of los angeles to hunt for one! i’m sure if my catholic-turned-christian mom knew what i was up to she’d be really upset: getting tattooed more and more, collecting skull-themed paintings and wanting to buy religious icons with skulls on them. it’s not even a religious thing for me, i just want one for artistic purposes…and it looks fuckin’ dope. i have to say i’ve become more and more obssessed with death eversince my mom passed away, i guess it helps me cope with it. my aunt was down here recently and she didn’t say a word; perhaps she finally got tired of judging me and just accepts me for who i am? that would be nice for once.
anyway here are a couple of articles that i thought were worth reading on the phenomenon that is the cult of santa muerte:
Seeing “Coming Soon” or “Under Construction” on a website, especially if it’s been “Coming Soon” for a while now. If you can’t afford a web designer or have no means of designing something yourself, you’re probably better off putting up a link to your blog, flickr or myspace; rather than have someone visit your website only to see “Coming Soon” - it’s such a waste of time for the visitor, especially if you’ve been promoting your website, or have a url advertised on your business card or flyer and yet there’s nothing to show. Also if you’re waiting for a super fancy website, you’re better off putting up something simple in the meantime. Personally, I prefer simple, especially if the content already speaks for itself.
I also think that if you have a website, you should update it from time to time. What is the point of having a website if you don’t update it? It becomes stale and uninteresting. Your visitors will lose interest and will probably never visit again.
the pepto bismol website is pretty funky, i had no idea! in other news, i am thinking of deleting this blog, i already started going on a deleting spree because i just don’t like reading my older blogs, it’s embarrassing to actually read about myself…anyways i think i finally got it out of my system and to my surprise i lasted a year with it. but then knowing me as soon i get rid of it i will probably have the urge to blog; but for now i think am done with following web trends (syke).
my old skulls from previous years will be at this annual show, see crappy photo below. which reminds me that i need to clean house and get rid of some books; it gets expensive keeping up with learning all these programs; and then books themselves become outdated in less than 2 years now it seems. i will send stickers to the first person who can name that pink character.
